What do ovarian cramps feel like?

Asked 2 years ago

How do you tell if your ovaries are cramping? Do they feel like period cramps? I'm asking because I'm experiencing period-like cramps way before my period is even due. If it is ovarian cramps, what do they indicate?

Period cramps can develop during, before and linger after the period has finished. Some women may experience short sharp bursts of pain and cramping in the lower abdominal area. Ovaries may not cramp by themselves, but the contractions in the uterus lead to cramping, and this can be further affected by the presence of ovarian cysts.

Ovarian pain is dull and consistent or sharp bursts of cramp-like pain. Sometimes, these cramps might be an indication of Ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer, or pregnancy. It can even be constipation, which can be treated with over-the-counter medicines.

If you are concerned about ovary pain, you should visit a physician. A physician will diagnose you according to your symptoms and may order some tests.
