Should I still get my period if I am on birth control?

Asked 3 years ago

I recently started taking the contraceptive pill as a form of birth control, and I thought my period was supposed to stop. I still got my period though, and was wondering if this is normal, and what some possible reasons for this happening could be.

It is perfectly normal and healthy to continue getting your periods when you are on the contraceptive pill. The pill contains small amounts of hormones that prevent ovulation, alter your cervical mucus or the lining in your womb, reducing the risk of pregnancy by 99.9%.
