Does low estrogen cause jaw pain?

Asked 3 years ago

I've recently found out that hormones could affect the face and cause jaw pain. But, would it be low or high levels of estrogen that cause jaw pain?

Low estrogen levels are one of the causes of TMD-related pain.  Estrogen increases sodium channel plasma, which contributes to enhanced nociception and hyperalgesia, indicating that the presence of estrogen may cause TMD-related pain. TMD discomfort varies throughout the menstrual cycle, but it is at its peak just before menstruation due to low estrogen levels.
