What can I do to ease breathing problems during pregnancy?

Asked 2 years ago

Hi, I'm in my third trimester, and I'm experiencing shortness of breath. I'm worried that the difficult breathing may affect my pregnancy. It's especially prevalent when I lay down. I'm wondering if I can use an inhaler? What have you found is the best way to breathe?

These tips may help you to breathe easier: Sit or stand up straight. These positions give your lungs more room to expand. Now slow down. When you move more slowly, you lessen the work of your heart and lungs. Lift your arms over your head. By taking pressure off your rib cage, you can breathe in more air. Also, Sleep propped up.

A pregnant woman is breathing not only for herself but for her child as well. So, she needs to get more oxygen into her body — especially if the woman is late in pregnancy, such as the third trimester. The hormone progesterone increases the breathing rate. Consequently, it may feel like she is at shortness of breath. If it is hard to breathe, sitting or standing straight while raising your hands can help you breathe better.
