Can Merina help with hormonal migraines?
Asked 2 years ago
Hi. I have struggled with hormonal migraines for many years. I had the Mirena coil put in about 4 months ago, it helped ease off my heavy bleeding, but I feel that the headaches have gotten worse. I get them every month, either at the beginning of my period or at the end and sometimes during ovulation. Has the Mirena helped anyone else with the hormonal migraines? How long did it take to work?

It may take time for the body to adjust and adapt to the "new." Some women experience the Mirena to intensify their migraines for the first few months (3-4mos), but after that, it settles down and helps reduce the related headaches. A neurologist can assess the cause of the migraines and may prescribe other medication.
