Can stress cause endometriosis to flare up?

Asked 2 years ago

Good day, beautiful people. I have had endometriosis for some time now, but it's been okay and not too painful. However, it's starting to get sore, and I've had quite the stressful week, this first in a long time. Could it be flaring up due to the stress, or should I be concerned that it's getting worse?

When you're stressed, your body creates a hormone called cortisol. Too much cortisol can impair your immune system's ability to operate over time, which may explain why you're more likely to catch a cold when you're stressed. Inflammation plays a major part in endometriosis, and stress enhances inflammation in the body. More inflammation can lead to more pain in the long run.
