Does your menstrual cycle change when on birth control?

Asked 3 years ago

What is your menstrual cycle like when you're on birth control vs. when you're not?

That depends on the type of birth control you're on as some may lengthen your cycle and while others shorten it. Some can make your period heavier and others may make it lighter. Most types of birth control use estrogen and/or progestin hormones. Since these work to prevent ovulation or implantation or both, they tend to affect the uterine lining, leading to spotting and other changes in your periods.
