Such advancements include fertility treatment options and preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), which can identify healthy embryos for transfer. What Is PGT-a Testing? PGT-A is the testing of early-stage embryos for chromosomal abnormalities. The testing is meant to complement in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. The aim is to improve pregnancy success rates while also reducing the chances of miscarriages. To screen an embryo’s chromosomes, the embryologist will perform a biopsy, which involves removing three to five cells from the embryo. This will happen before an embryo is transferred into the woman’s uterus. The cells taken for the biopsy are retrieved from the trophectoderm (which will form the placenta later on) to evaluate embryos and won’t affect their growth. These cells are then sent in for screening to test embryos for chromosome abnormalities. Expected Wait to Receive PGT-a Test Results You won’t have to wait very long for the results of your PGT-a test. After the lab received the samples, it typically takes between seven and ten days to receive the results. Your genetic counselor or doctor will call you with the test results and will discuss if an abnormal embryo was detected. Is There Anything You Can Do To Speed Up the Pgt-a Testing Process? However, among fresh/frozen-thawed embryo transfers, the clinical pregnancy rate of frozen-thawed blastocyst transfer was the highest. Fresh vs Frozen Embryo Transfer for PCOS According to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2018, women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) infertility had greater live birth rates with frozen embryo transfer. Pacific Fertility Center Los Angeles says that according to several fertility physicians and treatment providers, frozen embryo transfers result in a greater pregnancy success rate than fresh embryo transfers during assisted reproductive technology. According to the findings of a study published in 2014 by Jemma Evans et al., frozen embryo transfer may result in a greater rate of pregnancy and better outcomes for both the woman and the infant.
